184-G129 ~ Galatians 6:15-18

Gary Googe Oct 12

Here we continue as we conclude our study of Galatians 6.

We’ll be looking at the following 7 important questions:

Question: WHEN was the penalty paid for our sins? At the cross!

Question: Did God do this before or after you were saved?

Question: Does someone have to believe that for it to be true?

Question: If the penalty was paid, weren’t our sins then forgiven?

Question: Doesn’t the unbeliever have to believe that to get saved?

Question: What is our gospel [good news] message to the world?

Question: Why is our message to the world called “good news?”

1 Corinthians 15:1-4

1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received [about the completed work of Christ to provide them with forgiveness of sins], and wherein ye stand; There were others that thought it foolishness.

2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

2 Corinthians 5:18-21

18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. This is not the false doctrine of universal reconciliation!

20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. Faith must be applied for 2-way reconciliation to occur.

21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

When faith is applied justification occurs!

Now let’s look at the second part of Galatians 6:14

14 But God forbid [ME GENOITO = may it never be] that I should glory [KAUCHAOMAI = glory or boast], save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.

First, there was a time when the world had its grip on us. But when we got saved, we died to the grip the world had on us. We were then made new creatures, that is, a new creation.

Romans 6:11 – the same principle.

11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin [the things of the world], but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Also, 2 Corinthians 5:16-17 Then our next verse in Galatians 6 goes on to develop this.

15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature [KTISIS = creation].

16 And as many as walk according to this rule [being a new creation], peace [complete (2-way) reconciliation has occurred—a new beginning] be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.

Let me give you a SHORT summary of “Covenant Theology.” [CT]

1–CT is very different from of mid-Acts Dispensational Theology.

2–CT teaches that the church today is an outgrowth of what God promised Israel.

3–CT teaches that the promises given to Israel have been transferred to the church of today.

4—CT teaches that the church today is spiritual Israel.

Question: Where is this taught in Scripture? Answer: It is merely an assumption.  It is not taught in Scripture.

What do WE believe about WHO we are???

1–Paul teaches the church today is a “new creation.”

2–Paul teaches that God knew He was going to do this, but it had been a mystery, a secret.

3–Paul teaches that believing Jews & Gentiles are now part of one body.

Romans 12:5

5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

4–Paul teaches that we are brought into this union by the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 12:12-14

12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

14 For the body is not one member, but many.

2 Corinthians 5:17-18

17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature [creation]: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

Then we close Galatians with our last two verses.

17 From henceforth let no man trouble me [I don’t want to hear any more about this]: for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.

18 Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.

This is about the great value of grace of God orientation. In other words, we have nothing to exchange for something as wonderful as everlasting life in Heaven. It is all because of the grace of our wonderful God.
