#181-G126 ~ Galatians 6:6-10 – Principles 7-10 on Giving

Gary Googe Sep 20

We continue our study with some review, going back to verse six.

Galatians 6

6 Let him that is taught in the word [students] communicate [KOINONEO = distribute, as in giving out. In this case providing support.] unto him that teacheth in all good things [in all kinds of ways].

7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. [All decisions have consequences.]

8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith [believers].

We continue our study with our 7th principle—

7th Principle: We are to give lovingly.  [Every gift should be a “love offering”.]

John 3:16 – Here we see God “giving” His Son. What a wonderful example He sets for us!

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

8th Principle: We are to give discretely.

Matthew 6:1-4

1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:

4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

9th Principle: We are to give sacrificially.

2 Corinthians 8 & 9 = 2 chapters on giving 2 Corinthians 8:5,9,13-14

5 And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God.

9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.

13 For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened:

14 But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality:

A wonderful illustration of this type of giving is seen in Jonathan’s [Saul’s son] relationship with King David.

I Samuel 18:1-4

1 And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.

2 And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father’s house.

3 Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.

4 And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.

10th Principle: We are to give willingly.

II Corinthians 8:12

12 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.

We’ll continue with more on this subject next time.
