Politics: Can it save our country?
Many people spend more time watching or reading the news than they do their Bible. Even more spend time watching and reading things that are pure fiction. If that’s the case with you, can’t we rightly say it is time to make a change. Wouldn’t it be better for you and for others if you invested your time learning the truth? We are clearly told, even commanded, that we’re to be diligent about our study of this marvelous Book of all books we speak of as the Bible. There you’ll find only truth. Furthermore, it provides for us all access to wisdom by which to make important decisions in multiple areas of life.
2 Timothy 2:15
15 Study [SPOUDAZO = Be diligent] to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. [Emphasis added]
Can you trust everything you see or read in even “the news?” You certainly can believe everything you read when you’re studying your Bible. So, why would so many people pay so little attention to it? In the Greek and Hebrew writings of it, it is perfect! Flawless! No mistakes about anything at all! That can’t be rightly said about ANY translation of it, but it is true of the original text.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God [THEOPNEUSTOS = God-breathed], and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect [ARTIOS = complete], thoroughly furnished unto all good works. [Emphasis added]
Can’t it be said that neglect of the Bible is foolishness? The writer of the book of Proverbs beckons us to pay close attention to what is said so we can avoid making foolish decisions and being fools. Some form of the word fool occurs 78 times in that one book. Here are a few of them—
Proverbs 8:4-5
4 Unto you, O men, I [God’s Word] call; and my voice is to the sons of man.
5 O ye simple [PETHI = having a small amount of understanding], understand wisdom: and, ye fools [KESIL = self-confident], be ye of an understanding heart [one who is able to make good decisions]. [Emphasis added]
Proverbs 10:8
8 The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall. [Emphasis added]
But what does “prating” mean? I’m sure all my “King James only” friends who think they only need that version to understand the Bible can quickly tell me. I’m only kidding of course! For more information about the pun, please see my articles about that subject—
KJV: Which verses demand the Greek text to be understood?
The Hebrew word translated “prating” many centuries ago is the word SAPHAH which in today’s English would mean something like—running off at the mouth or something similar. This, of course, is something fools are prone to do about all kinds of things.
Proverbs 10:21
21 The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom. [Emphasis added]
Proverbs 15:14
14 The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness. [Emphasis added]
Are you a person who truly seeks the truth ongoing? Shouldn’t we all be that way?
Proverbs 23:9
9 Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words. [Emphasis added]
We’re clearly warned about the kind of reaction we’ll get from most people when we present principles stated in the Bible. Therefore, there’s no point in wasting your time with these people because they’re really not interested in knowing the truth. If they were, they’d be diligently seeking it mainly from the Bible.
Again, 2 Timothy 2:15 gives us a clear command on that.
15 Study [SPOUDAZO = Be diligent] to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. [Emphasis added]
Do people who know you think of you as a serious student of the Bible? Your friends will certainly know because you’ll be prone to talk about it. And I’m not talking about people who just go to some church. I know very well that most churchgoers are not going there because they have a genuine interest in studying the Bible and growing spiritually. It is all more about a social life than anything else. Some even believe God is impressed by their attendance. There are passages of scripture that tell us we should habitually assemble with other believers for the study of the Bible—
Hebrews 10:25
25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. [Emphasis added]
The forefathers of our great nation understood a lot of the things I explain on this website about the value of the Bible. Here are some things they said about it—
George Washington—First President of the United States
“It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible.”
Patrick Henry—Early American Leader
“There is a book [the Bible] worth all the other books ever printed.”
John Jay—First Chief-Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court
“The Bible is the best of all books, for it is the Word of God and teaches us the way to be happy in this world and in the next. Continue therefore to read it and to regulate your life by its precepts.”
Noah Webster— “Schoolmaster of the Republic”
“Education is useless without the Bible. The Bible was America’s basic textbook in all fields. God’s Word, contained in the Bible, has furnished all necessary rules to direct our conduct.”
Thomas Jefferson—Principal author of The Declaration of Independence and President of the United States of America
“A studious perusal of the sacred volume will make better citizens, better fathers, and better husbands.”
Again, we need to be sure we do our best to pass that kind of thinking on to the next generation. I even have some videos on this website about this. Here’s the link to an example of that—
#190—What are we to think about this all time best selling book called the Bible?
There are also many articles about the value of the Bible and why everyone needs to be studying it. Here are the names of some of those articles—
Bible: Do you have time to study it?
Bible: How can one gain the truth?
Bible: How important is it to you?
Bible: How should one study it?
Bible: How is it that it is inspired?
Bible: Is it a trustworthy book?
Bible: What are we to think of the King James Version (KJV)?
Bible: What authority does it have?
Bible: Where should a person begin studying?
It has been the knowledge and application of principles found in this book that have provided a solid foundation for our country as it will for any individual. Ignorance of it will lead to our destruction.
Just know that it wasn’t politics that made America a great country; it was the principles of truth by which people designed it in its founding principles. The source of that truth is God, not man. And man is able to learn that truth through what God has provided through the Scriptures, the Bible. Apart from it we’re as ignorant of these things as anyone in any country. I have a whole article on this website dedicated to this subject of ignorance and how it is to be overcome. Here’s the link to it—
Ignorance: Could this be the primary problem?
Unfortunately, the education of our young people in America today is moving in the wrong direction. They are given so little truth about our country’s founders and the contributions they made to make America such a great nation.
Of the several hundred who are spoken of as our country’s Founding Fathers, many were believers in Jesus Christ. Contrary to what you may have heard, nearly all these men were Bible believing Christians, not just theists. The Founding Fathers would include those who signed the Declaration of Independence and/or the Constitution, played a role in drafting the Bill of Rights, served as state governors, commanded military forces during the War for Independence, etc. People who want to refute all this and rewrite our history want to focus only on men such as Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson. This leaves most people unaware that 29 of the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence possessed qualification that would now be considered equivalent to Bible school degrees. Many of these men publicly expressed their faith in Jesus Christ. This includes Benjamin Rush, John Adams, Charles Carroll of Carrolton, John Jay, John Hancock, and many more. NONE of the Founders adopted what some would call secular worldviews. For more information about this, we have a fabulous organization right here in Texas close to our home where these matters have been fully researched. You may go to their website and find an abundance of correct information about it. Here’s the link to it—
https://wallbuilders.com/resource/americas-founders-as-christians/
The founder of this organization is an American patriot, David Barton. Any time you spend on their website will equip you to be a help in preserving the freedoms we all enjoy here in this great country called the United States of America.
Conclusion—
Politics alone is not what makes for a great country. It all comes back to what the people in a country come to believe. All the principles that govern a free people and a free enterprise system are found in the Bible. They just must be followed with some consistency if the nation is to survive and prosper.
